'Speak Life' by Agony and Ecstasy (EP)
'Speak Life EP' is the debut release from Agony and Ecstasy, which is the name Steven Colborne has adopted for the purpose of releasing solo work as a musician. The name reflects the two poles of human experience and also Steven's tendency to experience bipolar moods.
Steven's musical career began as guitarist and songwriter in progressive metal band Marconi's Voodoo. The band produced high-intensity riff-infused metal and enjoyed some success on the independent music scene before unofficially disbanding with each band member pursuing other interests.
After a life-transforming experience of reading the Bible while on a psychiatric ward in 2007, Steven took to writing books about philosophy, religion and spirituality, and this was the focus of his career for some time. However, Steven's passion for music has never diminished and in 2018 he embarked upon a new recording project which saw him record ten new songs over a ten-month period.
'Speak Life EP' offers the best of the songs from the recording project. The style is difficult to define or compare to other artists, but electro-rock riffery, powerful drums and anthemic grooves feature heavily. The EP is largely instrumental except for the title track which features spoken vocals from Steven.
